Get Real By Suzanne Giesemann

Many people embark on the spiritual path in response to a personal tragedy.  My journey began after the death of my stepdaughter, Susan, who was struck by lightning. Since then, my worldview and my understanding of reality have expanded far beyond that which I held for the majority of my life. I used to hope this life wasn’t all there is. I used to believe there was more than meets the eye and that all we see is organized and coordinated by an intelligent Source beyond our current understanding.

I don’t believe that anymore. I KNOW it’s true. Belief leaves room for doubt; knowing comes from personal experience.

As a result of Susan’s passing, I discovered the ability to discern evidential details from people whose physical bodies have died.  I readily engage in real-time, two-way interactions with sentient beings at a level beyond our own which clearly show that consciousness continues after the transition called death.  I know that all of us can have such adventures in consciousness because all of our perceptions and experiences arise from the same infinite field of intelligence and information. 

These daily interactions with realms in which love is recognized as the connective and collective essence have changed me irreversibly. It is impossible to sit in this Presence and not know that peace and joy are readily accessible to all of us.  I have no desire to go back to the emotional roller coaster ride I used to experience. I’ll take balance over turmoil any day.

These changes haven’t been without adjustment. The other day I set the newspaper aside after reading a story steeped in negativity. I turned to my husband and admitted that it’s not easy walking in two worlds at once.  With so much violence on TV, in the movies, and in the news, it’s no wonder many haven’t yet realized we are spirit-beings here to love and serve each other and to grow and evolve by doing so.

Having experienced our true nature first-hand, I’ve made a deliberate choice to see only goodness.  You can call me naïve, but I prefer to be known as an alien … in other words, I know that I am in this world but not of it. And so are you.  It’s all a matter of which point of view you choose to operate from:  that of a limited human being, or that of a limitless soul.  It’s not a matter of either/or.  You are both human and pure Consciousness, here and now.

A good friend recently shared her “Why can’t we all just get along?” views with her cousin. The guy wrote back to my fellow Pollyanna and told her to “Get real.” To him, reality is a harsh, dog-eat-dog world where it’s every man for himself.  From the limited human viewpoint, perception is reality.

The question is: What is real? As I continue to experience first-hand, there’s more than one reality.  A very wise being once told me in meditation,  “You must stop differentiating between real and unreal.  Anything that you can create in consciousness is real and can convey truth, messages, information, learning, healing, and growth.  All is not as it seems.  You are just another part of me.”

It’s hard to stay positive and balanced when folks around you aren’t. It’s hard to see the bright side when journalists sell newspapers by ignoring good news, politicians win votes by slinging mud, and Hollywood continues to blow things up just for fun. Being peaceful and loving is a choice in this realm of duality. When you make the choice to focus your perception on being the expression of love, your whole reality shifts.

So go ahead. Get real!

But first decide; which version of “real” will you choose?
