Alicia has had many spiritual experiences throughout her life, including being allowed to witness the pre-birth planning session of a friend's son and gain insight into the experiences and challenges that our souls select to live out here on Earth (she wrote about the experience in her first book Visit from Heaven).  She shares her understanding and wisdom with us in her wonderful columns.

Hello, Alicia Young here. I'm on book tour in the US this month. My seventh title: Divinely Align Me: How Signs from the Universe Keep you on Your Path has just come out. The highlight of the trip has been a talk I presented at the United Nations! It was truly a dream come true. I've also been a guest on a variety of podcasts and given talks to community groups, private events, and on college campuses. Chapter 1

Protection

We used to joke that my father needed so many angels, there would be mass unemployment in heaven
when he passed. As I look back on the stories you're about to read, I'm a little embarrassed at the number of times I've been protected. It implies that I barrel through life recklessly. In fact, that's not the case, nor did it apply to Dad. But I have to consider that a free spirit, and a reasonably traveled one at that, would encounter a few situations that called for extra help. These days, I'm more grateful than embarrassed.

My Experiences
Meeting My Guardian Angel at Age Three

As mentioned, I'm one of nine children. We would pile into the car (in the days before mandatory seatbelts), and my sister and I would roll around in the back. At red lights, drivers would point and count, slack-jawed at the number of heads and limbs crammed inside. 

One afternoon, we were returning from a day out, when my parents made a final stop. They hopped out to visit a store, with our oldest sister left in charge. I still don't know how I emerged from that entanglement of limbs, but I followed my mother and father and was about to scurry across the road.

I was stepping off the curb when I felt a tug on my shoulder, pulling me back from the brink. Wheels screeched, and horns blared. As I spun around, I looked up into the eyes of a beautiful old man. His smile radiated kindness, and his face was weathered by sun and age in a way I now realize gave me a lifelong affection for those features; it was joy and wisdom etched into the lines of his skin.

I spoke with no filter, as young children do. "You're my guardian angel," I announced, as if it were mundane. He nodded, smiled, and faded. I was then swarmed by grown-ups. Decades later, I still feel both the fascination and the acceptance of that moment.
